Detlev Kittstein

Detlev Kittstein ( born February 24, 1944 in Sprottau, Lower Silesia, † 3 May 1996 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German athlete and Olympic champion in hockey.

Kittstein participated with the German national hockey team at the Summer Olympics in 1968, where the team finished fourth. In 1970 he won the German team at the European Championship in the first field hockey title. Two years later he won the team gold medal at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. Overall Kittstein participated in 68 international matches as a striker from 1965 to 1973. 1969 and 1970 he became German champion in 1880 with the SC Frankfurt.

From 1969 until his death in 1996 was Kittstein sports teacher at the Heinrich -von- Gagern High School in Frankfurt am Main, where he had already made his Abitur in 1967. 2007, the gymnasium of the school in memory was baptized him Kittsteinhalle.
