Detonating cord

A detonating cord consists of a fabric- covered soul from up.With the explosive explosives. They detonate upon ignition along its entire length with the velocity of detonation of the explosive contained - in distinction to the non- explosive strong fuse, which burns slowly.

As a rule, PETN is used as an explosive, but there are also detonating cord with a filling of RDX or HMX and Fulminatschnüre and detonating cord of paraffin with a core of mercury fulminate.

Properties

Detonating cords are available with different charge weight. The most common charge weights are 5 g / m, 12 g / m, 20 g / m, 40 g / m and 100 g / m. Because of the explosives used as a charge detonating cords have a very explosive explosive behavior, similar to the military explosives.

  • Powdered PETN

Application

During detonating cords are used with a loading weight of 5 g / m for connecting Schlauchzündsystemen, taking advantage of the detonating cord with a slightly higher loading weight of 12 g / m or 20 g / m generally to the connection of a plurality of explosive charges, which at the same time or in a small to detonate, but well-defined time interval. With the destruction of buildings may collapse so the behavior can be controlled. This type of ignition of explosive charges is referred to as Leitfeuerzündung.

The larger detonating cord types with 40 g / m and 100 g / m are often even used as explosives, especially where line-like charges are necessary.

Common applications include:

  • Leitfeuerzündung of conventional explosives
  • Applied loads in building demolitions
  • Metal blasting (instead of cutting charges )
  • Wood blasts (eg trees for the construction of vehicle barriers)
  • Bursting mast holes
  • Blowing up the canopy in front of the ejection seat - exit
