Deutsche Gesellschaft für Chronometrie

German Society for chronometry eV ( DGC ) is a scientific society for the time measurement technology with headquarters in Stuttgart.

Tasks and goals of the DGC

Purpose of the company is the scientific care of the time measurement technology, in particular watch technology and related fields of precision engineering, microtechnology and the art history of time measurement devices and procedures, the research and preservation of historic timepieces.

These tasks are performed within the company in professional and regional circles.

The company is a publication out in the form of a yearbook and informs members quarterly by the " DGC messages " about meetings, conferences, events, updates.

History

After the Second World War, the West German watch industry, which had its focus in the Black Forest and in Pforzheim's room, badly bruised. With the aim to support through research and development, the " German Society for chronometry " was founded in 1949 as a scientific society for watchmaking technology, time metrology and precision engineering.

Today, after the "old" German watch industry has virtually disappeared, forms Founded in 1960, the historical- scientific circle " friends of old watches " the focus of the DGC. The members come from the circle of collectors and watchmakers, from industry, academia and museums. They meet at the annual general meetings, meetings of professionals, in various regional groups and of course trips to the " watch sites " around the world.

The office and the extensive library of the DGC are located since 2002 in the historic rooms of the former and Crafts Museum, which also houses the collection of clocks Karl Gebhardt and the Clock Museum Karl Gebhardt is located.
