The Geldermann Privatsektkellerei GmbH is a sparkling wine producer, founded in 1838 and belongs since 2003 to the Red Riding Hood group. The annual production is about 2.3 million bottles. The sold under the name money man sparkling wine produced exclusively in the traditional bottle fermentation in Breisach am Rhein.
History
1830 traveled the two Aachen William Deutz ( 1809-1884 ) and Peter -Joseph -Hubert money man ( 1810-1869 ) to France to buy wine on behalf of the manor owner Alwin Freiherr von Amelunxen. After working several years for the champagne house of Joseph Jacob Bollinger (1803-1884) in Ay ( Marne département ) as a seller, they founded in 1838 at the same location, the Champagne house Deutz & money man. Money man and Deutz developed into a leading champagne house, and in 1882 a founding member of the Syndicat des Grandes Marques.
Given the growing importance of the German market and the tariff policy, the company founded a winery in Haguenau, then part of the German Empire in 1904. There, the current supplied from France wine was processed by the traditional method for sparkling wine. The customs duties for bulk wine were only a quarter of the charges for champagne. After the First World War, Alsace became French and for export to Germany again had duty paid. Therefore, the winery Deutz & money man was founded in Breisach on 17 April 1925. In 1995 the company was divided into the cellars Deutz in Ay and money man in Breisach. Champagne house Deutz was taken over by Louis Roederer. On 27 January 2003 money man was taken by the Red Riding Hood Mumm champagne cellars. At this time, the company had 102 employees and even an annual sales of three million bottles. The former aim to increase sales in up to 4.5 million bottles must meanwhile be regarded as a failure: in 2007 only sold 1.9 million bottles. Consequently, it was also the adoption of non- stop long-term decline of sparkling wine. 1992 still a turnover of the equivalent of 29.7 million euros was achieved, which corresponds to a production of about 6 million bottles.
