History
John Nichols founded in 1971 together with his son Larry, the company Devon Energy. In 1988, the company employed 185 people and went public in New York City. 1992 Devon Energy acquired the company Hondo Oil & Gas. In 1996 the company Kerr McGee was acquired and bought in 1998, the company Northstar Energy Corporation. A further acquisition was made in 1999 with the acquisition of ' Penzz Energy Corporation. 2000 Devon Energy merged with the company Santa Fe Snyder Corporation. In 2001 the company Anderson Exploration Ltd. was. and 2002, the Company acquired Mitchell Energy & Development.
Finally, in 2003 merged with the company Devon Energy Ocean Energy Inc..
In March 2010, Devon Energy sold for $ 7 billion oil fields in Brazil, Mexico and Azerbaijan to the British oil company BP. Devon had a medium-sized oil company not have the financial capacity to use all of its oil fields.
End of 2009, construction began on the new headquarters of the company in Oklahoma City. The result is a 54 - story skyscraper, the Devon Energy Tower, which was completed in 2012 and with a height of 259 meters is the tallest building in the city.
