Dewoitine D.27

The Dewoitine D.27 was a single-seat light fighter between the two world wars. It was designed by Émile Dewoitine to the tender of the STAE for a light fighter class " C1 légers ". In terms of structural Dewoitine remained faithful to the line preceding hunters, while at the aerodynamics a number alterations with. The pattern was powered by a Hispano -Suiza HS- 12Mb. As the chassis D.27 received an axle chassis instead of independent wheels.

Construction

During the construction of the company by Émile Dewoitine D.27 went bankrupt in February 1927. The development has been on the Federal Konstruktionswerkstätte passed in Thun, whereupon the first prototype on June 3, 1928 completed the first flight. After Dewoitine had made in March 1928 by the Société Française Aéronautique - Avions Dewoitine independent again, the second and third pre-series were delivered to France in April 1929. New motorized with a Hispano -Suiza HS- 12Jb with 400 hp, this specimen was designated as D 272. The other pre-production was armed with two 7.7 - MG. After evaluation by the STAE a contract for the supply of two pre-production and the supply of three other D.27 was signed on 29 November 1929. The other three pre-production aircraft were assembled at Lioré & Olivier. The D.27 were equipped with a HS 12HB with 500 hp and were known to the French air forces under the name of D 271. A copy was equipped with a GnomeRhône Jupiter VI which a power possessed supercharged 425 hp 4000 m. This version was known as the D 273. However, the orders of the Air Force failed to materialize for one of the two versions.

Use with the Swiss Air Force

End of 1929 the decision, the fighter squadrons were equipped with new aircraft for the Swiss Air Force made. These five pre-production aircraft were delivered under the name D -27 III of the K W. This delivery began in 1931. Was followed by 15 pre-production aircraft and 45 series machines. A total of 66 machines have been delivered to the air force.
