Dezső Ernster

Dezso Ernster ( born November 23, 1898 in Pecs, † February 15, 1981 in Zurich ) was a Hungarian opera singer in the bass voice.

Life

Born in Pécs, the son of a cantor, Serious studied in Budapest and Vienna. His career began in Plauen, where he sang in 1924 and 1925, the role of Hermann in Wagner's opera Tannhäuser and the Singers' Contest at Wartburg. From 1929 he performed at the State Theater in Berlin and at the Kroll Opera, where he sang under the direction of Otto Klemperer of the day, among others, in Paul Hindemith's opera new. 1931 brought him Arturo Toscanini him in high esteem, to Bayreuth.

He had to leave Germany in 1933 because of the racial policies of the Nazis and went to Austria. In 1938, he traveled for a concert tour in the United States and did not return until two years later returned to Hungary. Meanwhile, there was also there a performance ban for Jewish singer.
