Game History

Both teams played the 1- 4-3 -2 system with Libero and two strikers. On both sides of the new additions, the national player Detlef Schößler in Dresden and Heiko Bonan were in Berlin, used. While Dresden coach Geyer could summon his full strength, missing from the BFC previous regulars Frank Rohde and Eike Kuttner. In Dynamo Dresden surprised the nomination of the 30 -year-old Andreas Trautmann, who had just recovered from an injury. It was a bow Geyer before the long-term assets of Dresdner, which the coach did not want to deprive the career highlight Supercup.

From the outset, a fast-paced game, powered by the people of Dresden Schößler and Kirchner and the BFC players Ernst and Fügner developed. First, however, there was a lack of compelling combinations, as both sides were too focused on man coverage. With increased playing time of the BFC Dynamo won on game security, was imaginative and flexible than his opponent, thanks to an excellent performance of its new mid- field actor Bonan. From the safe standing defense dangerous attacks were carried forward again and again. So it was no coincidence that Berlin's central defender Bernd Schulz 29 minutes opened the scoring. It turned out that the use of Trautmann was a mistake. Its shape weakness brought uncertainty in the Dresden defense in which only excelled Kirchner.

Also in the second half, let the game pace not after. The BFC strikers Doll and Thom fought fierce battles with Schößler and Kirchner, the advantages clearly lay with the Berlin attackers. With the substitutions of Trautmann and Gütschow for captain and Jähnig to Dresden coach Geyer hoped for more security in defense and better playmaking. But alone against the trickery of Thom and Doll was do nothing that day. In 14 minutes Dolls gates were responsible for the early game decision, the penalty in the 74th minute to make it 3-0 was controversial. Six minutes from time made BFC midfielder Ernst with a 4-0 victory for the Cup Winners perfect, Sammer's goal in the 88th minute was only a consolation.
