Dhal Shield

The Sipar (Indian: Dhal ) is an Asian medieval and early modern plate.

Description

The Sipar one of the round shields. It was used in India and Persia. The diameter is relatively small and is between 20 and 61 cm. Some of these shields are made very flat, while others strongly curved ( convex). The shields are made of leather or metal. The outside was adapted to each existing cultural idiosyncrasies. The special is the handle assembly of the shield. On the inside of the shield, the handles are located so that they can be held in the hand or may be worn on the arm.

The Sipar remained until the early 19th century in use. With the proliferation of firearms, he lost his importance.
