Dharan (Hindi: धरान Dharān ) is the third largest city ( Nepali: Nagarpalika, English: municipality ) in eastern Nepal (District Sunsari ) with an area of 12.23 km ² and 116 181 inhabitants ( 2011 census ) on the edge of the plains of Terai at the foot of the Himalayas at an altitude of 132-562 m.
Dharan is the home of the people of Kirant ( Rai and Limbu ), further here are Newaren, Brahmins, Chhetris to find Tamang and other ethnic groups. Therefore, here there is a variety of languages and dialects.
From 1953 to the 1990s, there was a screening at the site office of the British Gurkha.
