Dhenkanal (princely state)

Dhenkanal was a princely state of British India in what is now the state of Odisha. It was founded around 1530 by a Khurda - Rajputs and was from the beginning of the 19th century until 1947 a British protectorate. Dhenkanal in 1941 had an area of ​​3789 km ² and 324,000 inhabitants.

Raja Shankar Pratap Singh ( 1918-56 ) joined in August 1947, the Eastern States Union. On 1 January 1948 this union was dissolved and Dhenkanal Orissa ( Odisha ), and thus incorporated India. On November 1, 1956 all princely states were resolved. The Raja, who had been a member 1929-46 of the Indian princely chamber, went into politics and was 1957-61 Member of the Parliament of Orissa and 1964-65 of the Indian upper house.
