Diabetic angiopathy

As a diabetic angiopathy vascular damage are referred to, which occur as late complications in diabetes mellitus.

Due to changes in the capillaries ( microangiopathy ) caused various forms of diabetic microangiopathy: in particular, diabetic nephropathy, diabetic retinopathy and diabetic autonomic and sensory and motor neuropathy.

Although the macroangiopathy is not diabetes - specific but occurs faster and stronger than in non-diabetics, which is why the term diabetic macroangiopathy is common. It leads to atherosclerotic changes of medium and large arteries. She is responsible for the high heart attack, stroke and gangrene risk of diabetes.

The main factors that promote the development of micro - and macroangiopathy in diabetics, are hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia, insulin resistance, and various vasoactive hormones, cytokines and growth factors.
