Diane Coyle

Diane Coyle OBE ( born 1961 in Bury ) is a British economist and journalist. She leads the consultancy Enlightenment Economics and Deputy Director of the BBC Trust. In 2009 she received the Order of the British Empire for her services in economics.

Life

Coyle studied philosophy, politics and economics at Brasenose College ( BA, 1981). In 1983 she received a M. A. and in 1985 a Ph.D. from Harvard University. 1985 to 1986 she worked for the HM Treasury, after one year for DRI Europe. There, he worked at The Economist and the Investors Chronicle. From 1993 to 2001, she wrote for the Independent. 2001-2009 Coyle was a member of the Competition Commission. She is also a visiting professor at the University of Manchester and a member of the Migration Advisory Committee.

Work

Coyle specializes in competition analysis and the economics of new technologies and globalization. She has published, among others, on the impact of mobile phones in developing countries. She is also the author of several nonfiction.
