DIATONE was a Japanese subsidiary of Mitsubishi Electric and established speakers and radios.

History

In the 1940s, Mitsubishi Electric has successfully developed a "hard ferrites " OP magnet ( permanent magnet), and thus laid the foundation for the commercial production of Ferritt magnet. The OP magnet was a key ingredient in DIATONE loudspeaker. DIATONE gained international attention for the first time.

The first DIATONE speaker was developed in 1945 at the factory in Ofuna from Mitsubishi Electric. Its creation was due to the recycling of old stocks of magnets. The Second World War was over and an understandable shortage of materials made it necessary to make purchases from other manufacturers. At the time the speaker technology has not advanced very far. The production of speakers was very limited.

Having improved the supply and began a strong demand for electronic products, the outlook for a promising future market, Mitsubishi Electric began to make great progress with the comprehensive loudspeaker design. At the time referred Mitsubishi Electric innovative technical assistance from the Technical Research Laboratory, Nippon Hoso Kyokai. This relationship was to the benefit of both for many years.

1947 Mitsubishi Electric invented the so-called "adjustable resonance cone" an adjustable speaker cone. In conjunction with an operating magnet of the dynamic speaker 62 P- 16 Q -cm type was ( the precursor of the P- 610). A development that is still to be found today in loudspeaker. In the 1940s, all the speaker membranes were practically made of plain paper and fitted with a cone. The speakers from Mitsubishi Electric, however, used a special paper for the cone made of Japanese washi paper, pressed into a conical shape. This speaker delivered for that time an epoch-making power ( capacity).

Although this development was started in 1947, it took until 1950 until the speaker as a monitor speaker for broadcasting was recognized and was formally accepted. It was the first step in a dominated by foreign products market. The name DIATONE was registered in September 1946 as a trademark.

Used were the speakers of DIATONE the Japanese public broadcasting station NHK radio as a monitor speaker.

DIATONE presented with the D -160 speakers up to a size of 1.60 m diameter ago.

The production for radio sets began in 1945 with 4- tube receivers at the factory in Itami, in 1999, the factory was closed.
