Diauehi

Diaueḫe (mdi -a- ú -e -hi in the Yazılıtaş inscription also mdi -ia - ú -Hi, mdi -ia - ú -HI ) is an Iron Age kingdom or a coalition of nations north of Urartu. Its principal cities were Šašilu and Zuani. It is known only from Urartian inscriptions. The continuously used determinative m may suggest that it is a strain, no empire, Salvini points out, however, that switching between KUR and m to be found in the case of other transkaukasischer countries.

History

Menua

Beginning of the 8th century BC drew the Urartian king Menua by inscriptions from Yazılıtaş at Eleşkirt (HCL No. 23) and Süngütaşı against Diaueḫe and Erekua to war. Menua tells of the conquest of Diaueḫe and the royal city Šašilu [ ni ]. He claims to have burned the land, with the castles. He pulled up to the limit of Diaueḫe in the " pass " countries ( Sesetili ), in the city Zua and on the water supply of the city Utuha. Utupursi [ ni ], the king of Diaueḫe, submitted to. "He came in before me, he included [ my ] feet (?), He prostrated himself (?), I granted grace, I forced [ him ] to pay tribute, he gave gold [ and ] silver, he gave tribute. " Deportees in Diaueḫe the king gave back their property. On the stele of Zivin ( Süngütaşı at Sarıkamış, HCL No. 24) he reported to have taken over the city Šašilu and to have erected a stele for the god Haldi here. " Menua speaks: I brought me Šašilu, I [ besti ] ned this stone the [ HAL ] di, my Lord. " From this it could be deduced that Šašilu lay in Zivin.

Menua also mentions a country Tariuni king of Diaueḫe. Inscriptions from Taşburun and Başbulak report of buildings that was built here by the King.

So Diaueḫe paid tribute to the empire but was not affiliated, except for Baltuliḫi and Haldiriluḫi that Menua " hinwegriß ".

Argišti I.

After Horhor inscription was Diaueḫe in the second year of the reign Argišti I. together with Luša, Katarza, Etiuhe and Witeruhi target of a campaign. Diaueḫe paid a tribute of 20.5 kg of gold, 18.5 kg of silver and 5 tonnes of copper, but was not finally subjugated. In the Hanak - Argišti inscription tells of his campaign against the country Tariu. After the conquest of Tariu he moves on to the land Husa, to the land and the land Biani Ašqalaši. Before the city Aḫuria (a -su [- nini ] ) appeared to the king of Diaueḫe to pay tribute. The following passage are poorly preserved, but apparently report of the rejection of the tribute ( " I threw it away " ), the destruction of two cities and a booty of 72080 "fat cattle ". It was made an unreadable number of prisoners who Argišti partly killed and partly displaced. Overall Argišti wants destroyed in this campaign six forts and 50 cities have burned The inscription ends with the usual curse formula to the one who destroyed the God Haldi, and the God Quera may vanquish him .. Also the inscription of Surb Saak reports of campaigns against Diaueḫe ( fragment A) and its allies ( fragment B, back), the country Luša, the country Katarza, the people Eriaḫi, the people Uiteruḫi ( Witeruchi ).

Sarduri II

Sarduri II led other campaigns in the north against Etiune, Iga and twice against Qulha near Husa.

Location

Burney holds a position of Diaueḫe between Pontus, Erzurum and Erzincan for probable and favors the area between Tercan and Aşkale as well as the level of Hasankale. Diakonoff and Kashkai locate Diaueḫe between Erzurum and the upper Euphrates, " and further north ." If you believe the identification of Zivin in Khorasan with Sasilu, Diaueḫe would have been at Erzurum.

Dinçöl and Dinçöl want to equate mentioned in the inscription Hanak Taraiu with Hanak. Bia and Husa would then lie north of it, as well as Ašqalaši and Aḫuria, and the limits of Diaueḫe could range up to Georgia. M. Salvini Diaueḫe located in the upper Çoruh Valley. After Diakonoff and Kashkai (1982, 26) of Çoruh corresponds to the ancient Τάοχοι / Τάοι.

Arutjunian considering to equate the second capital Zuaini with the modern Zivin southwest of Sarıkamış. He holds a position of Diauehe between the Araxes, and Pasinler Delibaba - Velibaba possible.

Diakonoff and Kashkai bring Ḫaldiriluḫi with the name caldiran, a region north of Kars, the Çıldır lake, the river and the Çaldırsu Çaldırdağ in conjunction. Sagona will return the name Ḫaldiriluḫi to the God Haldi and locates the city on Çıldır Lake.

Diaueḫe and Daiaeni

Equating Diaueḫe with Daiaeni goes back to Grigory A. Melikišvili. Also Russel wants to equate Diaueḫe because of the name with Daiaeni, it would be so in the headwaters of the Euphrates. Köroǧlu argues for a location in the northern Anatolia. From this it could be deduced that Shalmaneser III. had advanced into northern Urartu or even to Georgia. This rejects Burney, however, decidedly. From the height of the tribute, he also concludes that Diaueḫe 've also " certainly not obsessed with the extension of the present Soviet Republic of Armenia ". The localization of Daiaeni depends among other things on whether one of Van Lake and the Black Sea meant by the "Upper Sea of Nairi ".

Diaieni is sometimes interpreted as " land of the children of Daia or slide ."
