Dibenzofuran contained in some Wärmebadmischungen and candle compositions, and is used for the preparation of biphenyls. There are also natural derivatives, such as the usnic acid.

Dibenzofurans

Under dibenzofurans can understand an entire class of compounds, in which the hydrogen atoms are replaced by other atoms or groups. For example, the hydrogen atoms on the carbon atoms 2, 3, 7 and 8 are replaced by chlorine atoms in the 2,3,7,8- Tetrachlordibenzofuran ( TCDF ). Polychlorinated dibenzofurans are highly toxic substances with properties similar to dioxins.

The dibenzofuran TCDF ( 2,3,7,8- Tetrachlordibenzofuran ) is the equivalent of the Dibenzodioxins dibenzofuran and 2,3,7,8- Sevesogifts tetrachlorodibenzodioxin.
