Dichlorheptaoxid is a chemical compound selected from the group consisting of chlorine oxides.
Production and representation
Dichlorheptaoxid is the anhydride of perchloric acid and can, accordingly, by the dehydration of perchloric acid with phosphorus pentoxide, at temperatures between -70 ° C and 0 ° C are represented by a subsequent vacuum distillation.
Properties
Dichlorheptaoxid is a colorless, highly volatile oil. It is more stable than the other chlorine oxides, however, explodes when touched with a flame or shock. With water it reacts to re-form to perchloric acid. The molecule has no mirror plane, the two ClO3 groups are mutually rotated by 15 degrees.
