Dick Grant

Dick Grant (actually Richard Grant, born August 3, 1878 in Dufferin, Manitoba, † January 9, 1958 in St. Catharines, Ontario) was a Canadian long-distance runner.

In 1896 he was Canadian champion in the two-mile run. A seventh place in the Boston Marathon 1898, it began in 1899 at the same place a second place. With his brother Alex Grant, he shared this year's U.S. title over five miles.

In 1900 he was eighth in Boston. From Harvard University, he was nominated for the marathon in the Olympic Games in Paris. Like his brother Alex, who was seconded from Harvard University and over 800 m and 4000 m steeplechase started, he was officially assigned to the U.S. team.

The Olympic Marathon proved to be a poorly organized event. Only seven of the 13 runners crossed the finish line started. Grant who crossed the sixth without officially registered time, complained that he had been lying in a promising position, knocked over by a cyclist.
