Dict.cc is a free, multilingual online dictionary. For offline use dictionaries may be downloaded as text files and are used in various programs on Windows, Apple iOS, Android and Palm OS.
History
The website has been provided by the Austrian Paul Hemetsberger (* 1977) into the grid in 2002. His vision is to provide hundreds of languages in a few years.
In early February 2005, Paul Hemetsberger the download offer of word lists under the terms of the free GNU General Public License (GPL) a. Languages
The largest vocabulary currently includes the German -English dictionary, which exists since the existence of the website. Since November 2009, additional languages to assemble the unit, each with translations into English and German. The German - English dictionary, with its over 1 million translations (Updated: November 18, 2013) more extensive than LEO, and the inventory is growing daily by about 300 entries. The remaining 50 dictionaries hold a total of approximately 915,000 verified translations (Updated: August 29, 2013). Further part of the web site is a forum with about 18,000 contributing users and about 720,000 posts (status: August 29, 2013). There are over 3 million access requests daily. Currently 11 servers to process the 100 million page views per month quickly enough.
Speech
For each entry in the languages English and German can be an automatic speech output using speech synthesis to generate. In addition, users have the ability to create all entries even a voice recording. The system here is similar to that of the vocabulary structure. Thus already over 680,000 verified, spoken by native speakers voice recordings were made (as of: February 23, 2013).
Vocabulary Builder
