Diddy Kong Racing

Diddy Kong Racing is a racing game developed by Rare for the Nintendo 64 game console in which the player can take control of various characters from Rare games. It is considered one of the best racing games for the N64. The Guinness Book of Records in 1999, according to the game in the two weeks before Christmas 1997 was 800,000 times pre-ordered.

Description

For a long time on the development of the game, nothing is known, and it was rumored that Nintendo's development was kept secret because Diddy Kong Racing Mario Kart 64 was as obviously a number better and you wanted to avoid that customers hesitant to Mario Kart 64 and refrain could then resort to Diddy Kong Racing. It was not until the publication of Rares Jump ' n' Run Banjo -Kazooie had to be postponed, Nintendo announced that it would publish the already almost finished Diddy Kong Racing as a replacement a few weeks later.

Successor

Originally two successors of Diddy Kong Racing in planning: Diddy Kong Pilot for the Game Boy Advance and Donkey Kong Racing for the GameCube. As the developer Rare was bought by Microsoft, however, the rights to the Donkey Kong series of them could no longer be used. As a result, the work on Donkey Kong Racing was set. Diddy Kong Pilot for the Game Boy Advance but was further developed, but without the Kong characters that have been replaced with characters from Banjo -Kazooie. The game was renamed in Banjo - Pilot and appeared in early 2005, but only received average reviews. Beginning of 2008 appeared a new racing game with characters from the Donkey Kong series, Donkey Kong Jet Race, which had been but developed by a completely different studio and has been rated by the press mostly negative.

New edition

At E3 2006 Nintendo showed a new version of Diddy Kong Racing for the Nintendo DS handheld. For the development again showed Rare responsible, which have the game from the ground up to integrate newly programmed and in addition to the usual content also new. The previous drivers were - with the exception of Diddy Kong - replaced by other family members of the Kong clan. Diddy Kong Racing DS was released in February 2007 in the United States and was published on April 20 in Europe.
