Dido Kvaternik

Eugen "Dido " Kvaternik ( born March 26, 1910 in Zagreb, † March 10, 1962 in Río Cuarto, Argentina) was a Croatian Ustasha lieutenant general. He was the chief of police, and the intelligence and security services in the Independent State of Croatia ( NDH ). In addition, he had under his all 22 concentration camps in the country. He was instrumental in the NDH -terrorism measures against Serbs, Jews and Roma.

Life

Eugen Dido Kvaternik was the son of the commander of the Croatian forces Slavko Kvaternik and his wife Olga (nee Frank, daughter of HSP - politician Josip Frank). After leaving school, he began studying law, but he did not graduate.

Kvaternik traveled a lot abroad, but he also met Ante Pavelić and other Ustasha officials. 1933 Kvaternik fled after a failed attempt to assassinate King Alexander I in Zagreb from the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. Under an assumed name ( Eugene Rakovečki, Egon Kramer ), he led a second, conducted by Wlado Tschernosemski assassination attempt. After the conviction in the following process, he spent two years in Italy in prison. In 1936 his release, after which he joined the exiled Ustasha members on the island of Lipari, whose commander he was early 1937 and remained until the dissolution of the local detention center in April.

On April 13, 1941 just three days after his father had proclaimed the Independent State of Croatia, he returned to Croatia. On April 18, he was appointed director of the Ravnateljstvo za Javni red i sigurnost ( RAVSIGUR ), and on May 4, State Secretary at the Ministry of Interior Andrija Artuković. In addition, he was appointed head of the August 16 Ustaška nadzorna služba ( U.S. ) and as such was responsible for the operation of all concentration camp in the Independent State of Croatia.

After a falling out with Pavelić Kvaternik mid September 1942 of all his offices was relieved. In 1943 he and his family went into exile, first in Slovakia, then to Austria and Italy. In 1947, he finally emigrated to Argentina. Here he came in 1962 in a traffic accident.

Family

Kvaternik met his future wife Marija Cvitković in the summer of 1941 and married her on 10 January 1942. In October 1942, the first son of Slavko Eugen came into the world in August 1944, the second son before and the daughter Olga on April 2, 1951. Slavko later became a professor of Political Sciences in Argentina and Davor cardiologist in Boston. With Eugen Kvaternik his daughter Olga came at the age of ten years by the traffic accident, while his wife and two sons survived.
