The departure is a musical comedy in one act by Eugen d' Albert. The libretto Ferdinand Špork after the eponymous literary work of Ernst August Steigentesch. First performance was in Frankfurt on 20 October 1898.

Action

The opera is set in a pleasure palace in central Germany in the late 18th century.

Gilfen and Louise have long been married to each other. The great love they once felt for each other is somewhat faded over the years. Actually, the master of the house was already several times alone undertake a larger journey; but every time he wanted to leave, he was not sure whether he should stay at home but not because he feared that his wife could take advantage of this opportunity to have an affair. Consequently, he was not traveling from.

Gilfens friend Trott has secretly her eye on the still very attractive Luise. Since it is only understandable that he advises his friend, finally proceeding with the long-planned trip. First, does Gilfen as he followed this advice. He says goodbye to his wife and leaves the castle. But as soon as he is gone, Trott flatters the same one with Luise.
