Die Bachschmiede

The Bachschmiede is the cultural center opened in 2008, the community Wals.

History

The history of Bachschmiede can be traced back to the year 1567. At that time, built Georg Markhner below the standing on a rock conglomerate parish church of the whale Bachschmied - house Mühlbach. 1985 was considered at the suggestion of Sepp Forcher about the revitalization of the building. Initially planned as a local history museum, it could then be opened in 2008 as a museum and cultural center.

On the square in front of the so-called time Bachschmiede stone can be seen. This is a four times two meters high and eleven -ton stone from Unterberger marble. On him the story of the community Wals is shown in pictures. The artistic stone carvings were done by students of the vocational school in Walserfeld on a design by Franz Hirnsperger; each Steinmetz has signed his relief with his stonemason.

The museum's centerpiece is the beautifully restored forge the former Bachschmied family Reischl, which was revived as Schauschmiede. In the former horseshoe chamber you will find a comprehensive collection of horseshoes the Ebner family from Loig. Premises on the first floor provide an insight into the lifestyle of the 19th century and especially to remember the Bachschmiede son Jacob Lechner, a former professor at the Vienna Military veterinary medicinal Institute.
