Diederik Alexander stack ( * October 19, 1966 in Oegstgeest ) is a former high school teacher and Dutch social psychologist.

Life and work

Diederik stack studied at the University of Amsterdam, Psychology and Communication Sciences and graduated in 1991 with honors. Then he entertained research collaborations with the University of Chicago (1991-1992) and the University of Michigan ( 1996) and also spent time working as a consultant. He received his doctorate in 1997, with honors, in Social Psychology at the University of Amsterdam. From 1998 his research was funded by a five-year fellowship from the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences.

In 2000 Diederik stack was appointed Professor of Cognitive social psychology at the University of Groningen. 2002 Research funding was granted from the ' Pionier' program of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research him. Since 2007 he has taught at the University of Tilburg.

Diederik stack published during his scientific career, more than 100 essays and was editor of books and international journals. Many of his publications have been found world wide media coverage. An example of this is in March 2011 along with Siegwart Lindenberg published in the journal Science study, after the messy environments promote the use of stereotypes and discrimination. Caused a stir in a list published by Diederik stack and colleagues 2011 Press statement by claiming that people who remember to eat meat, less socially behaved than other people.

Scientific misconduct

In September 2011 it was announced that Diederik stack has falsified research data. Young scientists from stack research department had to the Rector of the University of Tilburg, Philip Eijlander, articulate, and these informed about their suspicions that stack data are not real. Confronted by Eijlander with these allegations, Diederik stack admitted to have invented data. Then he was suspended from his duties and will return to the University of operation, according to Eijlander not again. A commission headed by Willem Levelt was commissioned to determine the extent of counterfeiting.

In an interim report, the Commission noted that Diederik stack has falsified data on a large scale. At least 38 articles that have been published in the major social psychological journals, contain fictional data. About 150 other publications are still under investigation. The fraud dates back at least to the year 2004. Apparently stack has carried out the fakes alone and without accomplices. The fact that the data forgeries were not discovered earlier, the Commission lists the ingenious method of falsification, deliberate manipulation of young scientists, abuse of power and lack of scientific criticism back. In response to the report stack was on 9 November 2011 his doctorate voluntarily to the University of Amsterdam with the statement back that his behavior in recent years, is not compatible with the obligations arising from the doctoral degree.

The interim report does not name the already recognized as a forgery studies; only when the investigations are completed, to a list of fake works will be published. The Science publication on the effect of untidiness on stereotyping was withdrawn on December 2, 2011 by Stack and Lindenberg, because it contains fake data. In addition, is also considered likely that the results of meat inspection are fictitious. Until April 2013 50 publications were withdrawn. By August 2013, the number rose to 54

The criminal case against stack was set on the condition that abzuleisten 120 hours of community service, in July 2013; Stack have state funding not misappropriated for personal purposes but mostly spent on the employment of students whose work, however, based partly on fabricated data.
