Dieter Freise

Dieter Freise ( born February 18, 1945 in Heidelberg ) is a retired German hockey player and Olympic champion.

Dieter Freise played for HC Heidelberg. The full-back in 1971 German champion in indoor hockey. In 1969, he debuted in the German national hockey team. In 1970 he won the title at the first European Championship. In the first field hockey World Cup, which was held in Pakistan in 1971, Freise occupied with the German championship in fifth place. At the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972 Freise rose to the world-class, with his German team won in the Olympic final against the World Champion from Pakistan 1-0. At the World Cup 1975, the German team won bronze with Freise. Rather disappointing ran the 1976 Olympics, the German team finished only fifth place. In February 1977, he said goodbye after 85 internationals together with Fritz Schmidt, Michael Krause and Wolfgang Rott from the German national team. After his athletic career Dieter Freise practiced as a dentist in his Heidelberg practice. He also worked for many years as a youth coach at HC Heidelberg.
