Dietmar Hötger

Dietmar Hötger ( born June 8, 1947 in Hoyerswerda ) is a retired judoka from the German Democratic Republic (GDR). After his career Hötger was one of the most successful judo coach.

Hötger started at Tractor Great grove in Judo and was then delegated to the SC Dynamo Hoppe garden. There the Halbmittelgewichtler trained under Gerd Schneider. 1969 Hötger won his first DDR titles. At the European Championships in 1970 he reached the final against his compatriot, Rudolf Hendel, Hendel won the title. 1971 Hötger won bronze medalist, in the following year won Hötger at the European Championship in the final against the Soviet Anatoly Novikov judoka. At the Olympic Games in Munich, he was defeated in the semifinals of the Poland Antoni Zajkowski and received the bronze medal. 1973 Hötger defeated in the finals of the European Championships West German Engelbert Dörbandt, in Lausanne Hötger lost in the World Cup final against the Japanese Toyokazu Nomura. After a bronze medal at the European Championships in 1975 Hötger reached the final again in 1976, but it lost to the Soviet judoka Valeri Dwoinikow. At the Olympic Games in Montreal, he retired in the third round against Frenchman Patrick Vial.

Hötger was promoted as a sports soldier in the guard regiment Feliks Dzerzhinsky to first lieutenant and had undergone training at the German College of Physical Education in addition to his sporting career. After ending his playing career Hötger was first junior coach, then head coach at Dynamo Hoppe garden. He coached the only East German Olympic gold medalist in judo Dietmar Lorenz, next he led Günter Krüger, Detlef Ultsch, Andreas Preschel, Henry Stöhr, Torsten Brechot and Sven Loll international medals. For his achievements as a coach, he was in 1988 awarded the Order Banner of Labor Level I. After the turn Hötger was assistant coach of the German Judo Federation, from 1993 to 2000 was Hötger national coach. Among other things, he led Udo Quellmalz to Olympic victory. After his time as national coach Hötger took over judo training at the Federal Police.
