Dietmar Schmidt

Dietmar Schmidt ( born April 29, 1952 in Zwickau ) is a German handball coach and former handball player. His playing position was the circle.

Career

His home club in the GDR Oberliga was the ASK Vorwärts Frankfurt / Oder, with whom he was twice East German champion. 1974 and 1975 In 1975, he won the European Champions Cup. With the East German national team, for whom he played 242 matches and threw 349 gates, he was second in 1974 and third in 1978 World Championships. At the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980, he led the national team of the GDR as a team captain to Olympic victory. He was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver for this success. In 1984 he was awarded the medal in gold.

Since July 2006, Schmidt 's coach at Frankfurter HC. He coached the women's Bundesliga team to the club going bankrupt in the summer of 2013, and the associated withdrawal from the Bundesliga. Since the 2013/14 season he coached the playing in the 3rd Liga former 2nd team of the FHC.
