Difethialone is a mixture of four isomeric chemical compounds from the group of Thiocumarine used as a rodenticide, and structurally similar to warfarin. It is a water- white to yellow powder.

Use

Difethialone is an anti- clotting agent of the second generation, which was introduced in 1986. It is mainly used for mice and rat control in the interior as well as in warehouses and stables. It may only be used in secured bait boxes and not as a contact powder. Poisoned animals may not reach the outside. Resistance to difethialone are not known so far. For humans it is very toxic, as for most of the higher animals. Secondary poisoning of domestic and wild animals are possible with consumption of rodents killed. Case of accidental ingestion, treatment with vitamin K preparations must be done under medical supervision.

In the U.S., the use has been banned for a decision of the EPO dated May 2008.

In Germany the approval in the table in Annex I to Directive 98/8/EC on 1 November 2009 since the recording is so far limited to 31 October 2014.
