Diisodecyl phthalate is a mixture of organic chemical compounds ( isomers) from the group of phthalates, ( esters of phthalic acid ), which is used as a plasticizer for PVC. It is a colorless, nearly odorless, oily liquid.
Properties
Physical Properties
Diisodecyl phthalate having a viscosity of 120 to 150 mPa · s at 20 ° C.
Use
Diisodecylphthalate is used ( with a particularly low volatility and excellent low temperature flexibility ), especially for applications in the higher temperature range (eg cable in vehicles) as a plasticizer for PVC. DIDP is however also used in PUR and epoxy resin adhesives. It is forbidden to use the substance in toys and childcare articles that can be taken by children in the mouth, because the substance is listed in Annex 1 of the Commodities Regulation.
Proof
Can be detected qualitatively and quantitatively diisodecylphthalate by chromatographic methods such as by HPLC and gas chromatography, particularly in the coupling of these methods to mass spectrometry.
