Dimitri Kitsikis

Dimitri Kitsikis (Greek Δημήτρης Κιτσίκης; born June 2, 1935 in Athens ) is a retired Greek -born professor at the University of Ottawa and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. His teaching areas were the politics of international relations, Greek - Turkish relations, as well as Greek, Turkish and Chinese history.

Life

Kitsikis was born in 1935 the son of a famous scientist and politician and a popular fighter in Athens. Since 1947, he attended a Catholic boarding school in Paris and visited China in 1958. In 1962 he received his doctorate at the Sorbonne in Paris.

In 1965 he was commissioned researchers at the National Centre for Scientific Research ( CNRS) in Paris. In the same year he founded the science of photographic history. In 1968 he participated in the " May Uprising of '68 " in Paris. Because of the participation in the May Uprising 1970 he was dismissed from the National Center for Scientific Research. In the same year he received a full professorship at the Institute of History of International Relations of the British-French University of Ottawa.

He taught at the universities of Ankara and Istanbul, Chinese and Turkish history, was an advisor to Turgut Özal and Constantine Karamanlis. His work applies a reconciliation and union between Turkey and Greece.

In 1981, he was honored by the Bosphorus University for his scientific contribution on the study of Kemalism in Turkey. In 1991 he was awarded the Greek Peace and Friendship Commission Ipekçi for his services to the Greek-Turkish friendship.

In Athens, a library was named after him in 2006.

Works

He has 34 of its own scientific works on international relations, Chinese, Greek and Turkish history published (including a " Comparative History of Greece and Turkey," " Comparative History of Greece and China "). These ( " Communist Parties in Western Europe", including "Women and Family in Islam " ) has 35 additional plants, for which he served as co-author. His works have been translated into several languages ​​(including Greek, Turkish, Russian, Bulgarian, Portuguese, Spanish). There are also other publications in scientific journals as well as six volumes of poetry and two other poems and drawings. Since 1996 he is in Greece out the quarterly magazine " intermediate region" on geopolitics and Greek-Turkish relations.

The theory of the intermediate region ( Ἐνδιάμεση Περιοχή ) is a topic that Kitsikis treated continuously and on which he bases his Griechentürkentum. The intermediate region is true geographically coincide with the territory of Eurasia, on the Orthodox Christianity and Islam are predominant.
