Dimitris Koutsoumpas

Dimitris Koutsoumbas (Greek Δημήτρης Κουτσούμβας, born August 10, 1955 in Lamia ) is a communist Greek politician. He's since April 2013 General Secretary of the Communist Party of Greece KKE.

Biography

Koutsoumbas joined the youth wing of the Communist party during the dictatorship, when he graduated from the Law Faculty of the University of Athens. Party member he was 1974. 1987 he was elected to the Central Committee. Since 1991 he was a member of the Politburo and ten years in charge of the party newspaper Rizospastis. In 2009 he was elected secretary and in April 2013 as the successor of Aleka Papariga general secretary of the party. He is married and has one daughter.
