Dimitry Vassiliev

Dmitri Viktorovich Vasiliev (Russian: Дмитрий Викторович Васильев, scientific transliteration Dmitry Viktorovič Vasil'ev, born December 26, 1979 in Ufa ) is a Russian ski jumper.

Career

Dmitry Vasilyev is considered the current best Russian ski jumper and has established itself in the world rankings. He jumps for the club ZSK / locomotive Ufa

At the Olympic Winter Games in Turin in 2006 he led on the normal hill after the first round, but was then only 10, his best results to date in the World Cup were two second places in 2001 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen at New Year's and 2009 in Lillehammer.

His most successful World Cup season is that of 2008/09. In the Four Hills Tournament him again reach with two third places at the opening event on 29 December 2008 in Oberstdorf and the final competition of January 6, 2009 in Bischofshofen World Cup podiums. In the touring Appreciation he finished in fifth place. On 15 February 2009, he fought his way to the Heini Klopfer ski jump in Oberstdorf with his team to second place. In the Nordic Tournament from 8 to 15 March 2009 he managed three podium finishes: third in the opening event on the Selpauselkä normal hill in Lahti, as mentioned second on the Lysgårds ski jump in Lillehammer and third in the final competition on Vikersund ski jump. 2009/10, he could not quite match the performance of the previous season. After an injury he had sustained in a practice crash at the Kulm ski jump, he was sidelined for several weeks in the World Cup. In a further fall after completion of regeneration during a training stay in Lillehammer he was injured again and therefore missed the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. On the diagnosis " cruciate ligament " was followed by a knee operation.

In March 2012, Vasilyev was able to win the Russian championship titles both on the wholesale and on the normal hill on the new ski jumping facility in Tchaikovsky.

Doping

Vasiliev was currently the only enlightened doping case of ski jumping in 2001. He had taken the diuretic furosemide for weight loss. Previously, he had achieved a third place in the Four Hills Tournament in Innsbruck jumping and a third place at the World Cup in Sapporo. The results were Vasilyev revoked and he was banned for two years. The reached shortly before the doping control second place in Garmisch -Partenkirchen was allowed to keep Vasilyev.
