Ding! Dong! Merrily on High

Ding! Dong! Merrily on High (Ding, dong, merrily on hig ') is an English Christmas carol. His boisterous and cheerful tune is heard on the sounding bells in heaven celebrating the birth of the Savior, Jesus Christ. Its refrain is the Latin Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis!

The text was written by George Ratcliffe Woodward (1848-1934) from the 20th century, while the melody is a French dance from the 16th century. The carol was first published in 1924.

The melody first appeared for a well known under the name le branle de l Official secular dance in the work Orchésographie, a dance book by Jehan Tabourot ( 1519-1593 ).
