Dino Betti van der Noot

Dino Betti van der Noot ( born September 18, 1936 in Rapallo ) is an Italian jazz pianist, big band leader, arranger and composer.

Life and work

Bettis mother and a cousin were classical pianists; he had from 1946 to 1951 at the music school in Pavia and 1959 private lessons in Milan. In the 1970s, he studied at the Berklee College of Music. By the late '50s, he led his own formations in Italy; but he was active in the 1960s outside of the music scene. From 1969 to 1978 he headed an amateur big band with which he recorded an album ( Basement Big Band, 1978). From 1982, he worked with a professional big band, inter alia, with Franco Ambrosetti, Paul Bley, Bill Evans, David Friedman, Danny Gottlieb, Donald Harrison, Carmen Lundy, Paul Motian, Giancarlo Schiaffini, Steve Swallow and Gianluigi Trovesi. Since the 1980s, Betti headed full- Milan advertising agency B Communications, for he also composed many jingles. In 1987 he worked with its own big band in New York. He took since 1985 a series of albums with his own bands, for which he also wrote the compositions and arrangements for the label INNOWO and Soul Note on.

Prizes and awards

For his album They Can not know he was awarded the Musica Jazz Polillo Award. The album won the 1989 Space Blossoms Kritikerpoll Musica e Dischi. Here Comes Springtime was, according to USA Today 's third best album of the year 1986.
