Dinoperca petersi

The column or cave perch ( Dinopercidae ) are a small, consisting of only two species of grouper family relatives ( Percomorphaceae ).

Features

The fish have a continuous dorsal fin, which is supported 9-11 hard and 18 to 20 soft rays. The anal fin has 3 hard - and 12 to 14 soft rays. The caudal fin closes straight. The lower jaw protrudes. The Supramaxillare, a bone of the upper jaw is very large. The frontal bone has a central ridge. The Vorkiemendeckel ( Preoperculum ) serrate, the operculum bears two spines. There are 7 Reuse gill rays. Three pairs of muscles are connected to the large swim bladder. The fish have 26 vertebrae.

Species

  • Centrarchops chapini ( Fowler, 1923) is 30 inches long and lives near the coast in the south Atlantic, off the coast of Angola and at the mouth of the Congo.
  • Dinoperca petersi ( Day, 1875) is 75 inches long and lives in the western Indian Ocean off the coast of Pakistan, southern Oman, Kenya, Mozambique and South Africa.
