Diocese of Karlstad

The Diocese of Karlstad (Swedish Karlstad pin ) is one of the thirteen dioceses within the Church of Sweden. It has existed since 1654, when the seat of the superintendency was moved from Mariestad to Karlstad. Since 1772 the superintendents carry the title of bishop.

Geographically extends the diocese about the historical province of Värmland and Dalsland large parts. It consists of 126 parishes ( församlingar ), which in turn consist of eight church districts. Bishop's seat is the city of Karlstad Karlstad Cathedral with the church as a bishop. Bishop of the diocese since 2002 Esbjörn Hagberg.
