Dionisio Laurerio

Dionisio Neagrus Laurerio OSM (* 1497 in Benevento, Italy, † September 17, 1542 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Dionisio Laurerio was the son of a small family of Florence. At an early age he entered the Order of the Servites, a, he studied in seminaries of the Order and gained a PhD in 1521. After his ordination, he worked as a lecturer in philosophy, metaphysics, mathematics, and theology at the Universities of Perugia and Bologna. From 1526 to 1529 he was in Rome and has become an excellent orator.

Papal Nuncio and Superior General

On May 18, 1528, the Order of the Servites Chapter elected him procurator ( financial manager ). In 1534, Pope Clement VII sent him ( 1523-1534 ) to London between the Holy See and King Henry VIII of England to mediate. During this mission, the friendship with Cardinal Alessandro Farnese, the future Pope Paul III was born. ( 1534-1549 ). On January 22, 1535, he was appointed vicar-general of his order. The Order Chapter elected him to the Assembly in Budrio on 27 April 1535 the Superior General of the Servites. On August 11, 1542, he was appointed papal legate in the Archdiocese of Benevento and the Campania region administrator of the church.
