Dionysios Bairaktaris

Bairaktaris Dionysius (Greek Διονύσιος Μπαϊρακτάρης, * 1927 in Euboea, Greece, † July 17, 2011 in Athens, Greece) was a theologian, author, and since 1979, the Greek Orthodox bishop and Metropolitan of Chios, Psara and Inousses.

Career

Was ordained deacon Bairaktaris 1952-60 in Athens and served as archdeacon of the Cathedral of Athens Metropolitan Church. In 1956, he received his bachelor of theology. He then studied law and was ordained a priest in 1960 ( ordination ). Until 1978 he was chaplain in the Greek Navy.

On November 6, 1979, he was elected Metropolitan of Chios, ordained on 11 November and 18 he took up his position on the island of Chios.
