Diphacinone is a chemical compound from the group of 1,3- indanedione derivatives.
Production and representation
Diphacinone may be obtained from dimethyl phthalate or phenylacetone.
1,3- indandione can be processed further by reaction with 1,1- diphenylacetone to diphacinone.
Properties
Diphacinone is a yellowish solid which is practically insoluble in water but soluble in many organic solvents. It decomposes when heated before boiling.
Use
Diphacinone is a coumarin derivative of the second generation and is used for controlling rats ( rodenticide ) or for therapeutic purposes as an anticoagulant ( to prevent thrombosis ).
In Switzerland, in Austria and in Germany no pesticide is approved, containing diphacinone as an active ingredient.
