Dipropylene glycol

The dipropylene glycols (or Oxydipropanole ) form a group of substances derived from glycol ethers. The same called technical product ( in the singular ) is a mixture of three structural isomers.

Properties

Dipropylene glycol is a colorless, hygroscopic, viscous, almost odorless and less volatile liquid.

Production and representation

Dipropylene glycol is a by-product in the production of 1,2-propanediol.

Use

Dipropylene glycol as an isomer mixture is used as solvent for odor-sensitive applications, such as fragrances and cosmetics. It is also used as a solvent and a humectant for a variety of cosmetic applications. 2,2 '- oxydi -1-propanol is used mainly as an intermediate in various chemical compounds ( reacts with dibasic acids) in Example to plasticizers and polyesters. It is a solvent for cellulose acetate, nitrate, pesticides, and is one of the few solvents for polyethylene.
