Direct Client-to-Client

Direct Client-to- Client ( DCC) is a widely used protocol that is supported by many IRC clients. It is used to build an independent from the IRC server connection that can be used to exchange files and to chat.

DCC connections can be initiated in two different ways:

  • The most common method consists of the introduction of a DCC session with CTCP (Client -to- Client Protocol). A CTCP request it sent by a user over the IRC network to another.
  • Another way to initiate a DCC session is the direct connection of a client to a DCC server. When using this method, the two parties must not even be connected to an IRC network.

DCC includes the following services:

  • CHAT: Allows users to chat with each other via a DCC connection ( chat ). The traffic in this case runs directly between the two users and not through another server ( for example, the IRC network).
  • WHITEBOARD: Is an extension of DCC CHAT and made possible with the help of a whiteboard to draw together or to make sketches.
  • SEND: Allows a user to another files ( directly ) to send.
  • Fserve: DCC fserve is a service of a DCC server that allows a user to view or download a list of available files. The procedure is similar to a text-based FTP client. (See also XDCC. )

Many IRC clients (for example, XChat or mIRC ) already include DCC and therefore also all standard options, the DCC brings.
