Directorate-General for Climate Action (European Commission)

The Directorate-General for Climate Action ( abbreviated DG Clima of Directorate-General for Climate Action ) is a Directorate General of the European Commission, and thus an agency in the executive branch of the European Union. It was formed in February 2010 as a spin- off of the Environment Directorate-General. Main tasks are the climate policy of the European Union and international climate negotiations.

Politically for this General Commissioner for Climate Action Connie Hedegaard is responsible. Head of agency is the Director General Jos Delbeke.

In addition to staff offices, the authorities division comprises four directorates ( which in turn are further divided ):

  • Directorate A International & Climate Strategy: This directorate deals inter alia with international climate policy, climate finance and deforestation.
  • Directorate B European & International Carbon Markets: This directorate is responsible for the EU emissions trading as well as for international emissions trading. In addition, air and maritime transport fall within this jurisdiction.
  • Directorate C Mainstreaming Adaptation & Low Carbon Technology: In this Directorate is responsible for policies falls to all the emitters of greenhouse gases, which are not covered by the EU emissions trading scheme. In addition, this Directorate is also responsible for the ozone -depleting substances under the Montreal Protocol.
  • Shared Resources Directorate: This directorate is used for internal management.
