Dishwashing

When washing or do the dishes, even washing up or flushing refers to the cleaning of cooking utensils and crockery, cutlery, pots, pans and the like.

In general, the term refers to both the washing of ware in hot, situated in a sink of water, often with the addition of detergent, and the drying of the cleaned material using a dry cloth.

Food and beverage residues that are not rinsed off at an early stage, dry and can then be difficult to remove.

Since the establishment of the dishwasher in the 1960s, washing dishes in the industrialized countries is increasingly less done by hand. Before the advent of the dishwasher rinsing was considered a prime example of an unskilled, menial task: " From rags to riches" is a household word to describe a started at zero storybook career.

In Austria, the term " wash-off " is also used for sinks.
