District 5, Düsseldorf

The Metropolitan District 5 is one of ten districts of the North Rhine - Westphalian capital Dusseldorf. It comprises the northern districts Stockum, Lohausen, Emperor, Wittlaer Angermund and Kalkum. The shape of districts to organize the city of Dusseldorf was introduced in 1975. The county seat is located on the Kaiserwerther market in Kaiserwerth. The northern boundary of the municipality is also the border with the city of Duisburg Düsseldorf city dar.

Description

The Metropolitan District 5 is geographically the largest of the ten municipalities and includes more than a quarter of the entire urban area of the state capital. The municipality is characterized by strong contrasts. In the south of the area are the Düsseldorf airport, the exhibition grounds and the multi-purpose arena; the north, however, is primarily characterized by agriculture, forests and suburban development in the districts Wittlaer Angermund and Kalkum. History

Kaiserwerth one of the oldest settlements on the city of Düsseldorf and has a rich history as an independent city. Kalkum has the earliest documented reference to Düsseldorf Stadtdgebiet. The corresponding text is from the year 892 ( Calechheim ). Lohausen is first mentioned in 1047 ( Lohuson ) Wittlaer 1144 ( Wizelare ) and Angermund 1188 ( Angermunt ). It was country estates and mansions of the nobility. As a result, smaller settlements developed. 1929 were incorporated Kaiserwerth and Lohausen. Flight operations of Lohauser airfield Bergann 1927, the airport was established in 1929. 1937 North Park and adjacent national socialist model settlements was built as part of the Empire Exhibition Working People. 1971 opened the new exhibition center in Stockum. Directly elected members were Michael Müller (Nordrhein- Westfalen) ( 2002-2005) and Hildegard Müller (CDU ) ( 2005 to withdraw 2008).
