Distrowatch

Distrowatch (proper spelling: DistroWatch ) is active since 31 May 2001, website, general information, news and a popularity ranking on various Linux distributions, as well as offers to other free or open source operating systems such as Open Solaris or BSD.

Distrowatch lists in detail the differences between versions of individual distributions as well as the packages contained therein. In addition, information about the processor architecture and the file system, and the price will be displayed. The page top ten distributions should also provide a detailed overview of the distributions leading today.

Page hit ranking

The page hit ranking ( Page Hit Ranking ) Distrowatch is considered "the best ' barometer ' on Linux distributions on the internet" and is often cited when it comes to the popularity of individual distributions. However, the evaluation system of Distrowatch is also prone to fraud, and some manufacturers have been accused of this at least tried. Also the founder of the site, Ladislav Bodnar is aware of this:

" I'd like to believe thatthere is some truth in the figures, but in all honesty, They Really do not mean all that much and Should not be taken very seriously. "

"I would like to believe that the figures some truth there, but honestly, they are not as meaningful and should not be taken so seriously. "

Used to determine the figures on the number of hits on the description pages of the distributions. These and other, more detailed distributions rankings and statistics can be found on undersides of Distrowatch (see links).

Package List

Distrowatch determined whether, and if so, what version software is in a distribution and thus makes it possible to compare the distributions with each other. This applies to all systems listed the same rules; it is about also indicated on the Distrowatch page to OpenBSD, if the Linux kernel is included.
