Properties
N, N'- di-o- tolyl guanidine is a is flammable, colorless to reddish solid with a faint odor, which practically insoluble in water. When heated it decomposes, with nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide may be released.
Use
N, N'- di-o- tolylguanidine is used as a vulcanization accelerator and volumetric standard, as well as an intermediate for organic syntheses.
Safety
N, N'- di-o- tolyl guanidine itself is not carcinogenic, but can preparation, still contain o- toluidine, which is carcinogenic. At a content of more than 0.1 percent o -toluidine, the mixture must therefore be regarded as carcinogenic.
