Ditsch

The pretzel Ditsch was founded in 1919 by master baker and his wife Christine Wilhelm Ditsch as a bakery for pretzels and pretzels in Mainz.

His son Heinz Ditsch led the company in its second generation, from 1952 on and started with the mobile pretzel sale at public festivals.

Peter Ditsch, grandson of the founder, streamlined the production of pretzel blanks, which have not yet had to be wound by hand and developed in collaboration with another company, the Brezelschlingmaschine. In the 1980s, the Ditsch began building a network of fixed stalls and stores. During this time, the first pretzel maker in Mainz was put into operation. In 1991 the present premises in the Robert -Bosch-Straße was purchased in Mainz- Hechtsheim and its headquarters were transferred there.

In addition to Mainz, there is also a production facility in Oranienbaum, Saxony- Anhalt. Both production units are certified according to the International Food Standard IFS and the British Retail Consortium ( BRC).

In 2009, the 90-year company anniversary was celebrated. By 2012, the family was in the third generation and had grown to over 400 employees. In September 2012, the company was sold to the Swiss Valora Group against a block of shares of Valora Holding AG worth over 80 million euros. The production facility in Mainz want to keep.
