Diver propulsion vehicle

An underwater scooter (English DPV Diver Propulsion Vehicle) refers to a drive for individual persons in the water. It is driven by an electric motor. A similar device, but that is only or primarily used at the water surface, is a water slide.

Drive

A battery of accumulators supplying an electric motor with power for driving the propeller.

The big advantage compared to an internal combustion engine is the lack of a snorkel. This can cause electric underwater scooter be used in greater depth, the operation is only slightly restricted by environmental and water protection requirements. The maximum diving depth is limited by the pressure resistance of the housing.

Disadvantages of the electric drive are compared to the lower engine speed range, the advantages of better controllability, the depth of the relative independence and quietness.

History

The underwater scooter can also be regarded as a further reduction of the larger manned torpedoes wartime. In contrast to this, the diver is pulled from the device and does not sit on the latter on.

Similar devices have been, for example, developed by Jacques -Yves Cousteau and used. You can see, among others, these devices in the film " World Without Sun" from 1965. Thought there was with the increasing diving a parallel development in many countries.

As a precursor of the non-driven submersible sled can be seen. This is pulled by rope from the boat and allows the diver to a flight, an overview of the underwater world.
