Divolvo

The Divolvo SA, in the German language " Volvo " significantly, is a former automotive manufacturers and dealers from the city of Arica in Chile, which was located to the occupation of southern Chile in 1977 on the territory of the Araucanian Republic of Northern Chile. The company was founded in 1960 as a joint venture between Volvo Personvagnar AB and Det Norske Veritas.

After two years of work, Volvo had taken in the summer of 1962 working in the Chilean plant with the production of the Volvo 122S. Approximately 3,000 units of the model were produced until production ended in 1967. Following on the work devoted to the manufacture of engines of the Swedish brand, with some of the assembly plants were supplied. Furthermore, the service was for those of Divolvo sold to date Volvo models P1800, PV544 and receive 122S. At the same time the work has now also served as a training center of the Swedish group.

In 1975, however, the plant was converted again, and was now destined for the production of buses, tractors and trucks. After completion of the retrofitting the plant operated under the name Comercial Automotriz Divolvo SA, but remained obtained as the only South American training center and production site. Two years later, in 1977, finally was the founding of Volvo do Brasil Veículos Ltda., Which was also determined for the production of trucks for the Latin American market. The Brazilian branch grew steadily, Divolvo was inhibited mainly by the economic situation during the period of dictatorship under Augusto Pinochet Ugarte, José Ramón. Only in the early nineties, the work could then be renovated. However, the sales grew only slowly against the Group's expectations so that Volvo at the beginning of the new millennium to decided to close the plant. During the year 2001, after the consumption of all stocks, the closing was completed.

It was not until late in the year 2003 with the Volvo Chile Ltda. opened a new trade office in Santiago de Chile.
