DJ Umek

Uroš Umek ( born in 1976 in Ljubljana, Yugoslavia, now Slovenia) is a Slovenian DJ and music producer; his nickname is Fotr (father).

Career

He began in 1993 with organizing in his hometown of techno parties; his work contributed greatly to the popularity of this style of music in Slovenia. He is now internationally known. On the DJ Magazine, he was elected 100 international DJs in 2007, number 29 of the top. Umek was known for his legendary 3- turntable sets, which he painted with effects. This includes the live set from the " I LOVE TECHNO 2001 " and " Mayday 2002 ". Today, Umek has turned to digital technology and playing with midi controller and Ableton Live. His style is to be used to become more minimal in contrast.

Labels

His first own label were Consumer Recreation, Recycled Loops and Astrodisco. His latest label bears the name " 1605 " ( Sixteenofive ), which deals more with techno and minimal.

Events

He played at important events like Mayday, Nature One, Love Parade and Time Warp Festival and toured Australia and the United States. His productions and remixes to Chris Liebing and others appear on Primate Recordings.
